The Next Primary

Wed May 07, 2008 at 04:05:35 PM PDT

I am a bit tired of rehashing all those old primary stuff.  What I am interested in now is thinking out four years.  I know I don't want the primary to look this way.  So I am going to propose some changes I would like to see.

Who Goes First
The whole thing about certain states going first has to end.  Let it be no more.  States should be encouraged to go in order.  There should be a loosely laid out order.  However, if states change their primary dates against the rules, only those responsible for changing the dates can be punished.  Therefore, if legislators change the date, then they are penalized.  Only if primary dates are changed by referendum can the voters be penalized.

Money
The 50-state strategy when combined with the Dean/Obama style funding is a hell of a machine.  Candidates should be trained on how to run funding campaigns by tapping small amounts from a large number of people.

Super Delegates
No more super delegates.  Period!

Length of Primary Season
Shorten the calendar time from the first primary to the last.

Hold the Results
If it were up to me, I would hold all the election results secret until everyone voted.  The press would never go for it.
